is a mystery about two children who are recently orphaned after their mother dies. Matt and Abby have moved to live with their Great Aunt Gerda in the Sierra Maria Canyon. Upon arriving, Matt and Abby discover several life - size dolls in the front yard of their aunt’s house. Because Aunt Gerda never had children, she considers these dolls her “children”. The dolls were made for Great Aunt Gerda by her late husband, and the dolls are very special to her. When two of the dolls are stolen and others are vandalized, Matt, Abby, and their new Friend, Kristin, team up together to find out who is responsible.
Even though this book is fictional, the author got the idea for this story from an article in the local newspaper in which a widow actually lived all alone…except for her life- like wooden dolls. I really enjoyed this book because it was good mystery and it keeps the reader guessing throughout the story. The author kept my attention with the perfect combination of creepiness and suspense. This book is perfect for kids in the fourth through sixth grades who enjoy interesting and exciting plots. The book is a great read in the classroom, especially during Halloween.
