I love this book written as an autobiography because it’s an interesting way to read about World War I. I would especially recommend this book to younger kids because it is a kid’s journal with lots of cool pop outs. This scrapbook of the war tells about all the events Archie went through: happy, sad, good and bad. Both Archie’s Uncle Teddy and Dad, who are fighting in the war, send postcards that pop out of the book informing the Albright family and sometimes just saying hello to let them know they are okay.
The street Archie lived on was called “Toms Street” and it was bombed. But who bombed the street? Could it have been the Germans? It could have been. Archie suffered so much for a ten-year-old boy. His dad was gone all the time and Archie often didn’t know if he was alright or not. But will Archie ever even see his dad?
