The Hunger Games is a suspenseful novel filled with excitement. Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen-year-old girl with one sister, a mother, and a best friend whom she hunts with every Sunday for food for her family. The people of her country participate in “Hunger Games”. In these horrid games, two tributes (one boy and one girl), are chosen from each district, 24 in all. Katniss and Peeta are teamed and fight against some of the most skilled fighters and survivalists in all of Panem. The winner receives fame and fortune, while the loser is killed. Only those who read the book until the end will find out if Peeta and Katniss win these wretched games.
The author, Suzanne Collins, did an astonishing job of making the characters come alive in the reader’s mind. The biggest reason I liked this book so much is because it wasn’t just people doing everyday things, but the book was filled with excitement like chases, murders, entrapment, and giant killer hornets.
The Hunger Games is an excellent choice for young, old, male, and female readers alike. This book really connects the reader to the world of Panem and the emotions of the characters. I thought this book was amazing and would encou-rage everyone in my class to read this extraordinary novel.
